Short description of the guest and his relationship to the world of sneakers and streetwear.
Hello, I’m Jan from Germany. I am a husband, father, and designer. I create every day in my 9to5 job as a senior (motion) graphics designer in a social media agency. When I am not at work or on family missions, I am doing my street sneaker photography at @allmypairs. Or I am sewing my own caps @smfxskateboards.
When did your interest in streetwear and sneakers start?
As far back as I can remember, I have always loved sports shoes. From track and field to soccer to skateboarding to basketball. I just love all kinds of sports. In the early 90s, I was (and still am) interested in HipHop music. It was right after the German reunification and I got more and more into this music thing with baggy pants, hoodies, caps, and sneakers.
¿ Is there a story or motive behind your collection?
It took me a while to call it my «collection». Until then I just loved sneakers and had a lot of them after I got my adult money. I just love the different styles, shapes, colors, materials, and the possibilities to customize or restore them. It’s just an enthusiastic passion. And I love being on the hunt for the perfect image.
¿How would you describe the urban culture of sneakers and streetwear?
It’s overwhelming and out of control. Beautiful and fucked up. Good and bad. It’s nice to see the evolution that everyone can see every day. Everyone can find their style. But I hate the hate that some people have against each other.
¿What is your opinion about the evolution you had in the last years?
At the moment I love the 90s trend. When it gets too technical, I am not a big fan. I am a sucker for suede and mesh. Simplicity is key for me.
¿What was your favorite collaboration?
I was most impressed by the Nike x Denham collaboration on the Air Max One. But I also love the work of Patta or JJJJCrew.
¿What is your favorite brand and why?
My favorite brand is my brand “SMFX skateboards” Aside from all other brands that make dope and good things
¿What is your opinion about the reseller culture that has developed in the sneaker industry?
It’s like that. That’s capitalism. People wanna make a dollar out of 10 cents. It’s not just a part of sneaker culture, it’s the way the system works. Making money. It’s just bad for somebody who wants anything like many others and doesn’t have the money others are willing to pay for something.
¿ Do you think sustainability and ethics should be more important in the sneaker industry and fashion in general?
Yes. It should. But this can’t happen. Never.
¿ What advice would you give to someone who is just starting to get interested in the world of Sneakers?
Just do it. Do what you like and respect the opinion of others. Treat others like you wanna be treated.

Hola, soy Jan, de Alemania. Soy marido, padre y diseñador. Trabajo como diseñador gráfico senior de 9 a 5 (motion) en una agencia de medios sociales.

¿Cuándo empezó tu interés por el streetwear y las zapatillas?
Desde que tengo uso de razón, siempre me han gustado las zapatillas deportivas. Desde el atletismo hasta el fútbol, pasando por el monopatín y el baloncesto.
Me encantan todos los deportes. A principios de los 90, me interesaba (y me sigue interesando) la música HipHop.
Fue justo después de la reunificación alemana y me metí cada vez más en esto de la música con pantalones anchos, sudaderas con capucha, gorras y zapatillas.
¿Hay alguna historia o motivo detrás de su colección?
Tardé un tiempo en llamarla «colección». Hasta entonces simplemente me encantaban las zapatillas y tenía un montón de ellas después de conseguir mi dinero de adulto.
Simplemente me encantan los diferentes estilos, formas, colores, materiales y las posibilidades de personalizarlas o restaurarlas. Es simplemente una pasión entusiasta. Y me encanta estar a la caza de la imagen perfecta.
¿Cómo describiría la cultura urbana de las zapatillas y Streetwear?
Es abrumadora y está fuera de control. Hermosa y jodida. Buena y mala. Es bonito ver la evolución que todo el mundo puede ver cada día.
Todo el mundo puede encontrar su propio estilo. Pero detesto el odio que se tienen unos a otros.
¿Qué opinas de la evolución que has tenido en los últimos años?
De momento me encanta la tendencia de los 90. Cuando se vuelve demasiado técnica, no soy muy fan. Me encanta el ante y la malla. La simplicidad es clave para mí.
¿Cuál ha sido tu colaboración favorita?
Lo que más me impresionó fue la colaboración Nike x Denham en las Air Max One. Pero también me encanta el trabajo de Patta o JJJJCrew.
¿Cuál es tu marca favorita y por qué?
Mi marca favorita es mi propia marca «SMFX skateboards» aparte de todas las otras marcas que hacen cosas buenas.
¿Qué opinas de la cultura de reventa que se ha desarrollado en la industria de las zapatillas?
Es así. Es el capitalismo. La gente quiere ganar un dólar por 10 céntimos.
No es sólo parte de la cultura de las zapatillas, es la forma en que funciona el sistema.
Ganar dinero. Es malo para alguien que quiere algo como muchos otros y no tiene el dinero que otros están dispuestos a pagar por algo.
¿Crees que la sostenibilidad y la ética deberían ser más importantes en la industria de las zapatillas y de la moda en general?
Sí, debería. Pero esto no puede ocurrir. Nunca.
¿Qué consejo le darías a alguien que está empezando a interesarse por el mundo de las Sneakers?
Que lo haga y punto. Haz lo que te gusta y respeta la opinión de los demás. Trata a los demás como quieres que te traten.
